How to get OneUI in Canada, Express Edition

Dernière mise à jour : 6 janv. 2019

The first post is outdated and unnecessarily complicated. So, have a brand new how-to!

What's new in this how-to:

1- Less steps!

2- Removed unnecessary files! Less risky!

3- No need to fetch anything anywhere, everything you need is readily available.

4- New versions

5- Note8 OneUI!

6- S8 and S8+ OneUI!

If you are reading this, you agree that you know what you are doing and the risks involved. You are doing this on your own, not because I or any entity forced you. Thus neither I or Samsung Electronics may be held liable for any loss or damage due to following those steps. These are provided for your convenience.

Still reading? Excellent! Let's begin.

WARNING: This tutorial only applies to phones ending whose model number ends with a W. Doing this on F, N, FD, 0 or 08 models may cause hardbricking or permanent loss of functionality. For instance, if you have a S9, the model shall be SM-G960W. If it is SM-G960F or anything not ending with a W, do not follow these steps, you do not have a Canadian phone.

This will not trip Knox, but your phone won't be "Google Play Certified", so Google Pay won't work until you revert back to Oreo or to the official Pie when released. Samsung Pay isn't affected.

Okay first thing to do is backup your stuff. Always. No excuses. Your phone may wipe during the process so your data might be lost. And now, for the actual steps:

2: Download the folders named "Standard Package" and "OneUI (Your phone)". Unzip the .zip files you have downloaded into a folder named OneUI. If done correctly, your folder will look like this (minus the other models):

3: Don't have an SD Card? Skip this step. Plug your phone to your computer. Open the "OneUI (your model)" folder and copy the .zip file named "(Your model) Beta (Version)" on the root of your SD Card. Got an S8 perhaps? For that, you just copy the files name Upgrade 2 and 3.

4: Turn off your phone.

5: Reboot in Download Mode. To do so, please hold down the Volume Down, Bixby and Power buttons at the same time.

That's how you go into Download Mode

6: A teal screen will appear with a warning. Just press Volume Up to confirm you know what you are doing.

7: On your PC, open the folder "Standard Package" and open Odin.

8: Click on the BL button. In the popup window that appears, navigate to the "OneUI (Your Model)" folder, then in the "US FW" folder. Select the file that starts with BL and hit Open.

Click On BL, then select the file that starts with BL. Piece of pie.

9: Wait a bit.

10: Repeat for AP, CP and CSC. AP will take longer than the others, this is normal. USERDATA must remain empty!

11: Plug your phone to your computer while still being in Download mode. Then, hit Start.

12: This will take a while, so be patient. If everything goes as planned, you'll see PASS appear in Odin.

13: Wait until your phone reboots in Fastboot. If it didn't do it itself, turn off your phone, then hold the Volume Up, Bixby and Power buttons. In fastboot, you navigate with the volume buttons and you select with Power.

And that's how you navigate in Fastboot

14: If you still don't have an SD Card, skip steps 14 and 15. Navigate to "Apply Update from SD Card". Then, select the file named "(Your model) Beta (Version)". For the S8, you must select "Upgrade 2". Wait for 10-15 minutes, this will take some time. The phone will look like it isn't doing anything, but it isn't frozen or stuck so don't interrupt this.

15: Your phone will reboot after this. The first boot may take some time and then it might start to "Optimize apps" so just wait for it. And... voilà! As for the S8, you just repeat Step 14 with Upgrade 3. And... Done! OneUI!

16: Got an SD Card? No need to do steps 16 to 21 (anyway you are supposed to be running OneUI at this point. Scroll down to the Important Info section!). Download this: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html and unzip the file.

17: On your phone, in Fastboot, navigate to "Apply Update from ADB".

18: On your Computer, open Command Prompt (cmd.exe, you know, the classic hacking program TVs and Movies use).

19: Drag the file named adb (from the file you downloaded in Step 16) into the Command Prompt window. Don't hit Start just yet!

20: In the Command Prompt, press space, then type sideload, then press space again. Drag the "(Your model) Beta (Version)" file into the window. For the S8, you select the "Upgrade 2" file. And now you hit Start! And now you wait.

It should look like this if you did it right. All good? Hit Enter.

21: Repeat Steps 18 to 20 with Upgrade 3 for the S8. Otherwise, welcome to OneUI!

Before you leave, here's 3 pieces of important information you should consult:

How to Update a beta

Here are the latest beta versions available. If you just followed this how-to, you are already running the latest version. If not, check which version you are currently running (CRKK, CRL4....). Here are the latest versions available:

S9: CSA3

S9 Plus: CSA3

S8: DRL7

S8 Plus: DRL7

Note 9: CSA3

Note 8: DRL7

Running these versions? No further actions are required. Otherwise, download the latest versions here:

Place the .zip file on the root of your SD Card. Reboot in Download Mode. In Odin select AP, BL, CP and CSC from the US FW folder. Remove your SD Card. Hit Start. After it passed, insert your SD Card and go into Fastboot. Then you apply the update from the SD Card. Simple!

//////////////////////////////////////////////

Revert to Oreo

Don't like Pie? It's okay, not all pie flavours suits everyone. DOING SO WILL FORMAT YOUR PHONE. REMOVE YOUR SD CARD BEFORE YOU PROCEED.

Reboot into Download Mode. Open Odin and click on BL. In the popup window, navigate to the Canada FW folder and select the file that starts with BL. Repeat for AP, CP and CSC. Hit start. And you are back on the classic dual-tone cookie.

Restore network features and Samsung Canada services

Pretty important features, I'll say. Would be a shame if you couldn't use Samsung Pay, Samsung Members or WiFi-Calling, HD Voice, Video Calling and VoLTE on Pie, wouldn't it? Too bad, you'll have to make a choice. Or you can just do this:

To restore those features, you just need to reboot in Download Mode, open Odin and click on CSC. In the popup window, navigate to the Canada FW folder and select the file that begins with CSC. Nothing else. Hit start and there you go!
