Samsung OneUI Beta for Canadian S9, S9+ and Note 9

Dernière mise à jour : 16 janv. 2019

Hey you. You enjoy beta software? You hate being left out? Want to get OneUI on your Samsung flagship with minimal risk? Own a Galaxy S9, S9 or Note 9? That's for you.

This version of the how-to is no longer maintained. For a more recent, simpler and easier version: https://chmultimedia.wixsite.com/core/blog/oneui-en2

THIS HOW-TO IS BASED ON THE LATEST FUNCTIONAL BETA VERSION, NOT PRIOR RELEASES.

This guide was updated on the 04/12/18. Changes: ZRKP + CRL1 Betas.

Next update will bring pictures and an AIO package (computer motherboard is busted. Those are delayed because of that sorry)

Good morning fellow Canadian S Members. I am here today to show you how to get Android 9.0 Pie with Samsung OneUI on your Canadian phone. But first, a disclaimer:

CHMultimédia takes no responsibility for data, limbs, eyes, jobs, kidnapping, lost keys, civil or international war, elections or innocence lost while proceeding with this How-to. This content is not cautioned in any way by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

Now that I cannot be held liable for any possible mishap, let's start with the preliminary steps.
WARNING: This will not trip Knox.
  • 0.0: Have a computer, a USB cable and a MicroSD card with at least 4GB of free storage. And more than 50% of battery left.

  • 0.1: The first step is to backup your data. Use S Cloud or Smart Switch PC. You need a PC anyways so you should use that.

  • 0.2: Once your data is safe, go get SamFirm and Odin 3B Patched. All the links are at the bottom of this publication. Those programs are to be used on a PC.

  • 0.3: Open SamFirm. In Model, enter SM-G960W for a S9, SM-G965W for a S9+ or SM-N960W for a Note 9. In Region, enter your CSC. This is found in About Phone-Service Provider Version ( *** / *** /XAC), which is the two strings of 3 letters that are repeated. On Rogers, this is RWC. On Bell, it's BMC. On Wind Mobile, it's GLW. On Vidéotron, it's VTR. You get it. You can also use XAC if you have had enough of carrier bloat. This will not restore the mobile data button shortcut.

  • 0.4: Click on Auto, Check Update, then Download.

  • 0.5: Unzip it's contents in a folder named CANADA FW.

//////////The steps 0.6 to 0.9 do not apply to the Note 9.////////////

  • 0.6: Now, still in SamFirm, enter the same model BUT, change the W to a U. That way the S9 model will show as SM-G960U. In Region, enter TMB. Make sure the firmware ends with BRJ6.

  • 0.7: Check update. Check again that the firmware ends with BRJ6. and Download.

  • 0.8: Unzip it's contents in a folder named USA FW. 0.9: Download the S9 Beta Upgrade firmware or the S9+ Upgrade accordingly. Do not Unzip. Name the zip file S9 Beta.

///////////////////The following steps are only for the Note 9:////////////////

  • 0.10: Download the Note 9 US Upgrade 1 and extract it's content in a folder named USA FW.

  • 0.11: Download the Note 9 US Upgrade 2, DO NOT UNZIP IT. Rename it Update 2 and place it in the USA FW folder.

  • 0.12: Repeat Step 0.12 for Upgrade 3 and 4.

Now you have everything needed to get the beta. Now the fun begins.

  • Step 1: Put the Upgrade file(s for the Note 9) on the root of your SD Card.

  • Step 2: Turn off your phone and hold Bixby Power Volume Down for a few seconds until an aqua screen shows. Press volume Up. This is called Download Mode.

  • Step 3: Remove your SD and SIM

  • Step 4: Plug your phone to your computer and open Odin.

  • Step 5: Click on the CSC button in Odin. Then, navigate to your USA FW folder and select the file which begins with CSC. DO NOT SELECT HOME_CSC, your device will softbrick.

  • Step 6: Do the same for AP, BL and CP. DO NOT SELECT USERDATA.

  • Step 7: Hit Start. Wait whole seconds. Even minutes!

  • Step 8: Once Odin shows a green box saying PASS and your phone reboots, wait until it goes into Recovery. If it doesn't do it automatically, turn off your phone and hold Bixby-Volume Up-Power until your phone boots into Recovery.

  • Step 9: On the scary black screen, navigate to Apply Update from SD Card. You navigate with Volume Up/Down and you select with Power.

//////////////////////// FOR S9/S9+ ///////////////////////

  • Step S10: Select the S9 Beta zip file. Then confirm.

  • Step S11: Wait another round of seconds. That's probably the hardest thing to do.

  • Step Infinite: Enjoy unofficial software.

//////////////////////// For Note 9 ///////////////////////////////

  • Step N10: Select the Upgrade 2 zip file and confirm. Then wait again as the agony continues.

  • Step N11: Repeat steps 8 to N10 with Upgrade 3 and 4.

  • Step Infinity: Enjoy unofficial software.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While you wait for the device to install Pie, you need to send a check of a quadrillion dollars to my house. Only then shall you enjoy the ugliness of generic icons, mixed with a more natural interface for tall devices. Remember to restore your backup. The update from SD will take quite a bit to do and this is normal. DO NOT INTERRUPT IT. The first OneUI boot is going to take 5 minutes, please be patient and do not reset your phone during the first boot.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bonus 1: Get Samsung Members working after the beta.

You like Pie but you miss Canadian S Members? Can't stand that awful Samsung+ app? I get it, I did too. Just boot your phone into Download mode, open Odin and fill the CP and CSC files from the Canada FW folder. This shouldn't wipe your phone, but you will get access to S Members and maybe carrier features like VoLTE. Do this if you experience issues with cellular connectivity, as the CP will flash the CA modem, and CSC will flash your carrier' specific parameters for connectivity, features and bloat. This will remove the mobile data button from Quick Settings, just consult the FAQ to get the button back.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bonus 2: Go back to Oreo.

To get back to Oreo, you just need to boot into Download Mode, Open Odin and fill the AP BL CP and CSC files FROM THE CANADA FW FOLDER, and then Start. This will wipe your phone completely. Here's all the links you need for this. These are direct downloads:

Remember to keep the USA FW and Canada FW folder contents. It will be very useful in case you need to rollback to get another build or just to get back on the official Canada FW.

I will update this How-to when a newer build gets released. Pics will be added afterwards.
